Welcome to Oak Haven Massage

The following information is Your Key to a great Massage

TALKING
We like to say, "The hour is yours to spend as you like." Some people like to chat with their therapist during the session, but more often than not, people like to relax and "zone out." It is not rude or uncommon to remain silent during your session. In fact, some people become so relaxed that they fall asleep.

AREAS TO WORK ON/AVOID
Let the therapist know what areas of the body are needing work. You can have a full body massage or you can limit the session to one or two areas – it's your choice. It is also okay to ask the therapist to avoid certain areas. The most common areas people ask to avoid is hair, face or feet. It is completely normal to ask the therapist to skip over a particular area. Just remember to communicate with the therapist.

DEPTH/PRESSURE
The most important aspect of a massage is the pressure.
We like to think there are three basic levels of pressure:
a. Light/Relaxing Massage
b. Medium Pressure
c. Deep Pressure

Remember everyone has a different definition of each of the above categories – so you will need to fine tune once the session has started. This is where many massage sessions go awry. Do not let this happen to you. The therapist wants to get it right for you, so please give them feedback.

ROOM TEMPERATURE
Everyone has different levels of comfort as far as the room temperature is concerned. Most people tend to be cooler when they are on the table. We have table warmers and blankets to help keep people warm. On the other end of the spectrum we have fans for clients who might be warmer. Please let your therapist know if the room is too cool or too warm.

LIGHTS
Lights in the room can be dimmed to a very low level. If the lights are too bright, ask the therapist to turn them down. Some like them up, some like them down. Let your therapist know your preference.

HOW TO UNDRESS
Undress to your comfort level. This means to either leave on your underwear or take them off . Most experienced massage receivers completely undress, but you can leave them on… either way it's okay.

SESSION TIMES
It is common in the massage industry to refer to hour and half hour sessions. They are actually 50 and 25 minutes respectfully to allow for changing clothes and a brief pre-massage or post-massage consult.

PLEASE COMMUNICATE
And now….For our most important recommendation….Please Communicate with your therapist. Oak Haven Massage has very experienced therapists who want to provide you with the best possible experience. Even the best and most skilled therapists cannot always provide a great session without a little help from you. Many people think that they have to take whatever massage is given to them. The fact of the matter is that the therapist is eager to match the style of massage you are here for. The key to getting the best massage is communication.  Speak with your therapist and let them know exactly what would make it a great massage.
