Serving in the military is something I have always taken pride and joy in. When I was discharged for medical reasons I found that my pride was just as hurt and my psyche and my body. When you serve in the military you tend to find ways to "protect" your mind, body and emotions in ways that make you seem hard or with sharp edges. You work your mind and body hard, with little to no thought to the much needed softness they require from a healing touch.
When I was discharged I moved to San Antonio to join my fiancé who had moved here a few months ahead of me. I was feeling lost and of course hurt in many ways. My sharp edges, that I had spent years molding myself into, no longer served me. But I didn't know how to get rid of them.
After some insistence from my fiancé I agreed to go with him to Oak Haven for a massage. He had already been going there for a while and felt that it was just what I needed. So I gave in and made an appointment for a one hour massage. It was during this session, amid their calming ambient music and the gentle touch of the massage therapist, that I took my first step toward healing the many hurts I was holding.
While my journey is not one that could be taken care of in one session, I returned, and continue to return, many times to Oak Haven and have had the pleasure of working with many different Therapists. Each has their own method of the healing touch and none have been less then amazing.
I am amazed as I look into myself and see how far I have come since the first session. I am no longer that cactus-like self that I once had to be. I am finding the softness that is naturally in all of us. Because of this my mind and body are working together to heal my pride, my psyche, and my body. And I couldn't have done it without my Oak Haven friends "digging in" and laying their healing hands upon me.
It takes courage to do many things in the world today, and one of them is to be willing to lay your hands gently upon someone else and say "today I am here to help you...show me where it hurts." And that is what Oak Haven and its staff is all about.

Oak Haven Keeps Me Going!!
I worked all of my life in the furniture business running a large retail operation. As a result of all of the years of doing lots of heavy lifting and carrying furniture about I have a pretty shot back.
Since Oak Haven opened it's doors I have been a regular weekly client. Oak Haven has kept me going and out of pain most of the time now. I make the time to come in once a week for a 1 1/2 hour therapeutic massage and then if Dr. Shuel is available I get a back adjustment from him.

It hurts soooooo good!!!
I have always avoided getting massages because I am so ticklish. But as I get older I find I have all sorts of aches and pains that I can not explain. My Broken Elbow
Last year, I had surgery THREE times on my left elbow. It was a long year and the therapy was extremely difficult. For four months, three times a week, I went the physical therapist. At the end, I was making little progress and was extremely frustrated. I was feeling sad and depressed so, I went to get a massage as that always makes me feel better. And, to my surprise, some of the problems I was having were more related to back and shoulder stiffness than to my elbow. Chronic Pain Sufferer
OMG, I suffer from chronic upper back and neck pain from an injury, at times its really so bad that I feel like I have super heated flaming meat hooks in the lower part of my neck at C-4,5,6,7 level. I work everyday to stretch and strengthen my muscles but getting a regular weekly massage is not a luxury for me it's a necessity in order to just live and function!!! My Car Accident

Mothers Day
The first time I went to Oak Haven was for Mother's Day. I was on facebook and saw the ad for a GREAT special they had for an hour 1/2 massage. Mother's day was just around the corner, so I decided to set up a massage for my mother. Well I ended up getting on for me too. When we arrived at the location, the staff was very friendly and the location was very clean and relaxing. We checked in and right away they took us in for our massages. How Sandra Got Her Nickname
My wife has been getting massages consistently since we got married, some 18 or so years ago. She started going to Oak Haven Massage several years ago to a masseuse named Sandra Pena. 25 YEARS OLD AND HIP SURGERY
I was recently diagnosed with AVN or Avascular Necrosis commonly referred to Osteonecrosis, basically I have a bad hip and it needs to be fixed. I am hoping to undergo surgery which is called Free Vascular Fibular Grafting. If the surgery goes well I will probably undergo at least 1 more surgery in my lifetime and the surgery will buy me about 20 more years until I will require a total hip replacement. The surgery they will perform involved taking bone and vessels from my fibula and implanting it into my hip. I had the surgery July 1st and I am recovering nicely Ill be on crutches until January. I just had my FIRST massage since my surgery and it was amazing how much better I feel and it released so much stress.

Help My Back Went Out
I do a craft segment on San Antonio Living, and after 12 hours of nonstop crafting I couldn't straighten my back up. I got up and bent over for some dumb reason to pick up the dog and move her and that was all it took. I was laid out on the floor couldn't move, couldn't straighten my body, just laying there with the dog licking my face. My husband took me to the hospital where they gave me a shot felt great until the next day and I was in the same situation. I headed over to Oak Haven Spa and told the front desk lady what had happened. She got me in right away to see a wonderful Massage Therapist. Muscle Spasms

Un'Cannie' Strength

I have never been to a massage office that has so many great employees. I have had so many therapists and they are all wonderful. I have gone to so many other chains and getting a good massage is hit or miss. It isn't like that at Oak Haven, each therapist is exceptional and great. When you get to know them all it’s too hard to pick a favorite you have to learn their specialties and then schedule with the right one. Back in shape
I've been going to Oak Haven since February of this year. I started with some chiropractic treatments with Dr. Shuel. I had stopped working out, and was getting very frustrated with my body, and how it was hurting and not functioning properly. The chiropractic treatments were helpful, but to get more relief, Dr. Shuel recommended one of his therapists to work on me. I made an appointment with Jessica the same day, and have been going to her ever since.
Jessica has really gotten to the root of my pain, and I have felt so much better that I started working out again. I have lost 15 lbs, and have felt better that I'd felt in a long time. No more excuses!
I found out I had scoliosis when I was in the 7th grade. As a 7th grader, I didn't see that it was affecting anything I was doing so I remained untreated for 3 more years. I participated in gymnastics and was told that I had a muscle imbalance in my back. When I finally made it to the doctor I was told that the scoliosis was due to the muscle imbalance. The muscles on the right side of my back were so strong that they were pulling my spine out of alignment. It wasn't until I really started to study dance and my body that I realized how serious it was to be ahead of my scoliosis. I have continued to go to the chiropractor for 5 years now and have made significant improvements in my scoliosis. It takes a continual effort for me to keep my back healthy but it doesn't always have to be a stressful situation. Massages are always a treat and when I found out that the muscles in my back that were causing the scoliosis could be massaged to release the tension on my spine, I started going to Oak Haven Massage. Since then, it is the only place I have recommended for massages. It is a fabulous, relaxing environment.

My Experience
Well where do I start? I guess from the beginning huh?? LOL Well a few years back my sister gave me a gift certificate to Oak Haven and this was when they were not as big as they are now mind you. Boy, when I went in that first time I never came out the same tangled up person. I went back a few more times even took my mom and still same great experience. It had been a while before I went back again this time was right before I became pregnant with my second child. I had always gone for knots in my back and for my migraines however, this time was different something else was wrong but I did not know what. Well doctors eventually have diagnosed me with fibromyalgia and now since I met an extremely talented and knowledgeable therapist there whom is no longer there but referred me to another excellent therapist started to do cupping. OHHHHH MY GOODNESS..... I will never go back to just a regular massage. There are so many techniques and Oak Haven has them.... Never underestimate what you may need. It is quite my experience that you can leave it in their hands to suggest what may be the best for you. Now my husband even goes to do microdermabrasion for his face. I never thought I would see him in my massage establishment. But I like it. Thank you Oak Haven. No matter how far you are from me it is worth the drive. Gotta love it!!!

I survived Randy!
Being in fairly bad shape with my neck, bank and hips out of wack, I was fortunate to have Randy work his magic. I laugh, because no pain, no gain. He would always say, I know it is going to hurt, just hang in there. You will feel better after I am done. No truer words were spoken. The tighter the muscles the higher the pain. He definitely worked magic, but I wanted to sport around a "I survived Randy" T-shirt.

With a Twist
After a yoga class I realized I must have stretched a bit too far and pulled something. Not to worry I thought. I treated it as a minor injury and went on with my day. Well, the pain didn't go away and it became an annoying dull ache. I still thought it would go away on its own. It didn't! Several weeks later on one of my visits to Oak Haven Massage I mentioned it to my therapist who spoke with Doctor Shuel. He evaluated my situation and with a manipulation or two the pain was gone!! If it had been a big injury I would have spoken up sooner but because it was minor I let it linger. What a relief to be pain free! Now, even if something may seem small I have it taken care of right away. Why suffer when you don't have to!

My wedding stress just melted away
I got married on May 24, 2008 and two days before Emily made sure that it would be pain free! My lower back has always been tight and the week of my wedding was no exception. Lost is Found
My personal massage therapist came to my home for over 10 years, weekly. She fell and received permanent nerve damage in her arm and hand. I was lost! Marathon Miracle to Half Ironman Hero
Sherri is her name and she is intense. She can find every tight muscle whether I am aware of it or not. When I was training for the marathon last year she was my miracle. I visited Sherri once a month for the 5 months of training and every time I was there she was a miracle worker. I had my appointments scheduled on Sundays after my longest run of the month on Saturday. With her hands, elbows, and even knees Sherri would heal my pain. I went to Sherri the day after the marathon so that I could walk again with ease. Now I am getting ready to train for my first Half IronMan. I will be logging numerous miles in the pool, on the bike, and on foot. Not only will my legs be tired but my arms and shoulders as well. I need to be strong, flexible, and refreshed for race day as I will complete 70.3 combined miles of swimming, cycling, and running. I need Sherri to help me cross the finish line and I need your vote. Make Sheri the Half Ironman Hero!

Unexpected Relief
I have been getting massages at Oak Haven Massage for about 3 years now. I have never been disappointed with any massage therapist that I has helped me. I struggle with headaches and they have recently been labeled as migraines. About a year ago, I went in and a female massage therapist met me and asked what issues I had she could help me with. We talked about my headaches and the tension in my neck and shoulders. Once the session had begun, we were talking about pressure points and tolerance and she told me about a technique, but she warned that some people might be uncomfortable. She explained that she would have to literally get on the table with me and she would use her knees to place pressure on back and shoulders. I laughed and said "let's try it". The therapist was very professional and the technique was a fabulous at relieving the tension that had built up! No one has ever used that technique again but I'm glad that therapist had the courage to suggest it!

Knot a Bad Experience...
A few weeks ago I injured my neck pretty badly and knew I needed to get something done. I had been to Oak Havens Massage before and that was the place I considered visiting because of the magic they had done from my previous visits. Of course customer service is vital in any business, but there is no denying that the most beneficial aspect of the visit was the massage. I was worked on by Juan who massaged solely my neck and my back. I won't lie - it hurt a little during the massage, but that is exactly what I wanted. Afterward my neck felt great and I have not had to spend any a single penny on a visit to a doctor/specialist. Oak Havens Massage was the answer I was looking for and I am extremely happy I chose them.

Mommy Time Away, WELL SPENT!!!
Everyone with little ones needs some time away to refresh, and that is what Oak Haven does for me! Pain free
I've been having shoulder spasms for the longest time. They come and go, and of course they usually come when I'm stressed out (which is MOST OF THE TIME, given I'm a medical student). But then I started to go to Oak Haven and got some deep tissue massage, and besides the perfect atmosphere and cleanliness, it was AMAZING! I could move my head around pain free. I could sit at my desk, pain free... it was amazing! Such a huge different in my mood and energy level!

Healing Hands
My first time visiting Oak Haven Massage was the day after I ran my first half marathon this past November. My left heel had been feeling extra sore since the beginning of October and was problematic during the race. I got an hour-long session with Sandra, who was very receptive to my post-race needs. She was even able to massage my feet, which I normally skip when I get massages because I'm so ticklish. Sandra applied the right amount of pressure and was able to alleviate the pain. Now when I walk, my feet don't hurt as much. I'd like to try a massage with the emphasis being entirely on my feet now.

The Massage Snob

I get massages quite often and have had many great massages, but this last visit to Oak Haven was fantastic. I had the opportunity to get massaged by Charles who listened to what my problem areas were, made me feel right at home, and got busy on ironing out all those knots, muscle sores, and aches in my body. He used several techniques that I had never experienced before with other massage therapist and was right on the money when it came to finding "the spots" and putting the right pressure. In addition to having great hands, great technique, and great pressure, he was also very personable and professional in his job. I think the best part (which really the whole experience was great) was at the end when he did a pelvic adjustment. If that's a woman's "happy ending", that was incredible....lol
I went in with a hurt back. Walked out like loosy goosy. :-)
